Summer Vacation Homework Ideas for Kids in Pakistan (Play Group to Grade 5)

Summer vacations in Pakistan are long, often two to three months. That is a wonderful break, but many parents notice that children forget a surprising amount by the time school reopens. The good news: just 30 to 45 minutes of practice a day is enough to keep skills fresh, and it doesn’t have to feel like school.

Here is a simple plan you can use at home, whether your child is in Play Group or Grade 5.

1. Set a short, fixed daily routine

Children do best with a predictable time. Many families choose the cooler morning hours, after breakfast and before the afternoon heat.

  • Play Group to Prep: 20–30 minutes (tracing, colouring, counting, letter sounds)
  • Grade 1 to 2: 30–40 minutes (reading, writing, maths practice)
  • Grade 3 to 5: 40–60 minutes (comprehension, grammar, maths revision, Urdu writing)

Keep weekends light, and stop while your child is still enjoying it.

2. English activities

  • Read aloud together for 10 minutes every day. Ask: “What happened first? What do you think happens next?”
  • Word of the day: stick a new word on the fridge and use it in a sentence at dinner.
  • Holiday diary: older children write 3–5 sentences about their day. Younger children draw and say a sentence you write for them.

3. Urdu activities

  • Practise haroof-e-tahaji with tracing and matching games (see our guide on teaching Urdu alphabets at home).
  • Read short Urdu stories or poems together and ask simple questions.
  • Write a short Urdu letter to a grandparent. Children love posting it!

4. Maths activities

  • Kitchen maths: count rotis, compare cups and spoons, share fruit equally.
  • Shopkeeper game: set up a pretend dukaan with price tags to practise adding and giving change.
  • Times tables (Grade 2+): two tables a week, practised out loud.

5. Make it fun with rewards

A simple star chart works wonders. Give a star for each day of practice, and a small treat (a park visit, an ice cream, choosing the family movie) after 10 stars.

6. Use a ready-made summer pack

Planning activities every day is tiring. A printed summer pack gives your child a clear page to complete each day, with a mix of English, Urdu, Maths and more. Our packs come in Basic and Advanced levels so practice is never too easy or too hard.

Frequently asked questions

How much homework should a child do in summer vacations?

Around 20–30 minutes a day for Play Group to Prep, and 30–60 minutes for Grades 1–5, is enough to prevent learning loss without spoiling the holiday.

What is the difference between Basic and Advanced summer packs?

Basic packs focus on core revision; Advanced packs add more challenging work. Many parents start with Basic and add Advanced for extra practice.
